Boys & Girls Club of Bay City and Matagorda County
Welcome to Boys & Girls Club of Bay City and Matagorda County
Come on over where fun and learning meet! We believe kids should be inspired to achieve and we offer a place for them to accomplish all sorts of goals in the areas of arts, school, character, sports and leadership. Since 2010 we have been the premier place for kids K-8 to be after school and in the summer and now we serve students from first through 12th grade. Check out our programs and get involved.
SMART Girls is a small-group health, fitness, prevention education and self-esteem enhancement program designed to meet the developmental needs of girls ages 8-12 and 13-17. Through dynamic sessions, highly participatory activities, field trips and mentoring opportunities with adult women, Club girls explore their own and societal attitudes and values as they build skills for eating right, staying physically fit, getting good health care and developing positive relationships with peers and adults.
SMART Girls is currently taught by members of the Bay City Junior Service League as a community service project.
Passport to Manhood teaches responsibility to Club boys ages 11 to 14. Participants receive their own “passports” supporting the idea that it is a personal journey to maturation and growth. Passport to Manhood is currently taught at the Club and at the Bay City ISD alternative school.
Triple Play is a national program with a holistic approach to educating boys and girls about good nutrition, making physical fitness a daily practice and developing individual strengths and good character.
In addition to components for the mind and body, the Triple Play program gets at the soul of the Club experience – the game room.
“Power Hour: Making Minutes Count” helps Club members ages 6-18 achieve academic success by providing homework help, tutoring and high-yield learning activities and encouraging members to become self-directed learners.
Participants are exposed to various activities designed to hone their decision-making and critical-thinking skills, as well as learn how to avoid and/or resist alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and premature sexual activity.
Triple Play’s Healthy Habits is designed to incorporate healthy living and active learning in every part of the Club experience, Healthy Habits emphasizes good nutrition, regular physical activity and improving overall well-being. The program, for ages 6 to 15, is the “Mind” component of Triple Play: A Game Plan for the Mind, Body and Soul.
The Garden Club is a local program taught by Bay City resident, Cornelia Normann-Petersen. Participants in Gardening Club learn to plant, water and harvest flowers and seasonal vegetables. Club members share in the preparation and cooking of freshly harvested vegetables; many enjoy the homegrown taste for the very first time.
